We’ll kick off this post by saying WHAAAAAAT?! Last week, Carly @ Reading Is Kind of My Thing nominated us for the Versatile Blogger Award, and we’re super grateful – thanks so much, Carly! If you haven’t seen Carly’s blog, go on and give her some love; she’s awesome 😀
Here are the rules for the Versatile Blogger Award:
- Thank the person who nominated you
- Leave a link to their blog
- Tell us 7 things about yourself
- Nominate 15 bloggers/bloggers you’ve discovered recently or follow regularly
Since there are two of us, we thought it could be fun to give you seven facts about each of us that are related to one another in some way! Here are seven things about us:
1. Profession obsession
What do we do in the time when we aren’t curating this blog and trying to read as much as we can? We’re both in our mid-twenties with (kind-of) 9-to-5 jobs that require our attention. Han is a qualified graphic designer who currently works in the packaging design industry but dreams of one day being a book cover designer! (see Kat’s latest posts where she interviews actual book cover designers and scream along, alright?) Kyle works in the healthcare field as a biokineticist, which means that he does sports injury and post-operation rehabilitation, but has aspirations of one day being a professional nap artist who gets paid for the art of napping. Because more often than you would like to believe, his current job entails waking up at 4am and living the caffeinated life.
When we were both at university, we had straaaange hairstyles, opposite to the hair on our heads at the moment! Hannah shaved off all her hair, and Kyle grew his hair loooooong. Not the “oh, his hair is covering his ears” long. More the “his hair is nearly touching his lower back” long. This is before we knew one another!
3. Where in the world?
Kyle has lived all over Southern Africa – he even wrote a poem about it! – and has travelled to Asia before on holiday. Hannah is a dual citizen of South Africa and the USA – her mom is Californian – but has only really visited the States and nowhere else in the world. We have a few travel trips planned together that are really exciting!
There’s a brilliant South African movie called, “District 9” about aliens that land in Johannesburg. A large part of it was filmed in and near the current city that we reside in. Seriously, check out the movie: it’s wildly brilliant and you’ll get a peek at our weird country and arbitrary accents!
4. Pump up the jam
One of the first connections we had when we met (more on that a little later) was music! Three bands we bonded over especially were Bombay Bicycle Club (whom Kyle saw live in 2014), Relient K (whom Hannah saw live in 2017), and Switchfoot (whom Kyle saw live in 2012, and Hannah saw live in 2017). A fourth band we both adore is The 1975, and we’re ecstatic about the fact that we’ll get the chance to see them live TOGETHER this year 😀
5. T.V., phone home
Like most carbon-based beings, we enjoy a good series 😉 We quickly fell into a routine of quipping lines from Fawlty Towers, The Office and Community to one another. We binged the second season of Stranger Things together earlier this year, and we’re currently waaaaay behind on Game Of Thrones (and will hurt, trust me, hurt anyone who provides spoilers), but are binge-ing like mad to get through it all! We wanted to insert a meme of this series here but are petrified of accidentally seeing some spoilers so we are trying to desperately avoid all social media regarding the series!
6. We don’t always hobby in the lobby, but when we do:
Han does cross-stitch and hand lettering as a creative hobby. Kyle is sporty and sadistically loves putting himself in situations of physical pain with the excuse of it being for fitness. So yeah, we’re into fitness; fitness whole pizza inside our mouths.
7. The club isn’t the best place to find a lover…
…so a bookshop’s where we went! Ahhhh, the story of how we met. Both being story-nerds, we came across one another on the last day of a clearance sale for a second-hand bookstore that was closing its doors. The bookstore’s loss was our gain because we went for coffee afterwards and the rest is history! You know what they say, when one bookshop door closes, another heart opens (does anybody even say that?).
Thanks again for the award, Carly – we truly are grateful! 😀 Aaaaand our nominations for this award go to:
